Matt Waite

Matt Waite makes a range of wheel thrown stoneware pottery which is fired in a large gas kiln to 1300c. The benefits of using gas to fire with are that the flame creates random 'toasted ' markings providing character to  the unglazed surface of a pot. Also, the glazes produced are completely different than those achieved in an electric kiln. The flame needs oxygen which is extracted from within the pots (as well as the kiln atmosphere ), thus changing the nature of the glaze. Many of my glazes are similar in composition to classic Oriental glazes .

At Christmas at the Orangery Matt will be selling a range of mugs, jugs, cups, tea pots bowls and many other designs.
